Mahasamund is a railway station. It has a computerized reservation counter, parking, a canteen, a cloak room, a waiting hall, a luggage shed and an automatic announcer. An rpf The police station is also located in the station. Mahasamund East Coast Railway area comes under Sambalpur railway division, hence the city lacks some standard facilities.
Railway track work from Raipur, Mahasamund to Titilagarh is in progress and may be completed in October 2019. Two new platforms have been approved and construction has begun. Now the Railway Board has decided to create new additional Divisional Railway Manager post Sarai Mahasamund.
